Hi everyone

We all have stories we can tell about learning from mistakes we make.

Well today i learned one such lesson (the hard way).

At about 21:25 GMT i started a game of U.L. with agresor.

Plenty of time i thought , to play at least 1, if not 2 games of U.L.

Yeah, well thats what i thought.

Bare in mind when i play a game of U.L. the game usually lasts under 10 minutes.
Sometimes, if the game is complex it could be 20 minutes in duration.
But rarely above that time span.

I was due to set of for work at 22:00 GMT but was still playing, he was trapped in a corner and i was sure of the win. So i played on . He was in a very difficult situation with very few options and limited movement due to being surrounded.
The problem i had was agressor moved only 3 times between 22:00 and 22:30
Far excedding any reasonable amount of time a normal person would take.

OK, he was in deep du-du, and we all need time when the pressure is put on, as 1 wrong move would mean goodnight Mr Chips(game over). BUT 10 MINUTES PER MOVE..........................COME ON.

On 1 occasion he only had 2 squares he could move to, without conceding the game. And it still took 10 mins to think it over.

I had that much time to think about my next move,(while i was waiting for him to move) that my response on each of his turns/moves was instantanious. Thus having to wait ANOTHER 10 mins.

As 22:30 approached, i offered a draw.........in a game i was surely to win.
By this point the fun aspect i so dearly associate with U.L. had totally GONE.

I was 30 minutes late for work, my partner has the hump (because of this) and i draw a game i know i would have won.

So im not a happy bunny!

I have the feeling, if i did not have to go to work (thus offering the draw) then i would still be playing that game NOW.
With agresor taking 10 minutes each move.

The lesson i learnt is IF you have a appointment in due course play with clock on.....or dont play......JUST IN CASE. or play unranked so you can leave on time.

Cheers agresor

I thought i might learn a lesson about U.L. from you!
But you taught me a bigger lesson !
Unfortunatly the lesson you taught me, did not really have much to do with U.L. afterall.

THATS VERY unsportable!

i am very disapointed about you:

If you can not play long check time options!

Hi

Firstly let me address agresor, who obviously doesn't seem to think that there is anythink wrong in taking 10 whole minutes to think about which piece to move. (AND ON 3 CONSECUTIVE MOVES) 30 MINUTES TO MOVE 3 TIMES. (I wonder how wellington would react)

Agresor i could understand , if there was a family emergency or you got disconnected, or you were arguing with your wife or maybe if your computer caught fire. etc etc
I dont even mind you taking time to think....10minutes for 1 move...ok
(NOT 10 minutes EACH move)

But when your options are SO LIMITED AS TO WHAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY MOVE without conceding the game. (trying to decide whether to move his piece forward or back....uuummmm a toughy, lets think for 10 minutes)
Plus add to the fact that you only moved 3 times in 30 minutes.
It starts me thinking. Were you stalling the game because you were near to defeat?

I am not accusing you of this because i do not know this for certain, but it is very unusual for someone to take so long to move 3 times.

It was a nice game until you started taking so long to move.
I will still play you again, BUT i warn you, from now on, i will only play you with bronstein clock ON.
As i do not wish to suffer a repeat of what happened yesterday!

As for your comment that i am very unsportsmanlike, let me just point out ,that i am very sporting and can take defeat as easy and gracefully as anyone here on gravon. Can YOU take defeat like a man? Because you were surly going to lose last night. Until you did what you did!
When you lost to baffi, you left for a while,(just before he won) before returning for him to take the flag. Did you leave with the purpose of not returning........then change your mind?

Secondly let me address my good friend baffi, when he mentioned we had a game lasting nearly 1 hour ONCE.
Yes we did, but are not most of our games lasting under 10 minutes per game. Sometimes a game may last between 10 and 20 minutes. But i think very few have been above the 20 minute mark.

Baffi can you remember when we played and you were trapped in the corner with very little pieces you could move? Well it was a similar end game last night. BUT you did not take 10minutes per move did you?
When i see you i will use free arrangement to show you!

And finally to lightwing, please dont stop playing agresor, as this could be an isolated incident. Although if you hear of him doing this with anyone else, please let me know and i will post it here.
He wont be doing this with me again, as from now onwards, i shall ONLY play him with CLOCK ON.

Hey, just had an idea!

Maybe we have a list similar to the "pussy list".
And we could call it the "scared list"

This idea came to me while trying to play agresor.

I said to him, after the way he behaved during our last encounter, i would only play him WITH bronstein clock ON. As i had no wish to play a game lasting ALL NIGHT.
He would not play me!
I explained the clock was there just to make sure he does not try to delay the game, should agresor be in a losing position. (like he seemed to do, in our last game)
I also explained the clock was obviously on for both players, but still he refused to play.

baffi (who was in the room at the time) made a suggestion!
He suggested that because of his reluctance to play with the clock option, that maybe I give him a chance and play without clock, BUT put it on VIEWABLE instead. And this way baffi could act as a witness, should agresor try any delaying tactics again.

Agresor refused this also!

The only reason i asked for these options was due to your recent behavior in our last game. I explained this to you agresor.
But you still refused to play me!

What difference would it make to you, if viewing was ON?
And why are you afraid to play me with clock ON?

I play for FUN!

My only concern was that i dont get stuck playing someone who (when losing) resorts to delaying tactics.
And playing someone who does, would quickly dimminish the FUN aspect of the game.

So i have the question : Are you scared to play me Agresor?

I like a challenge!
So here's my challenge to you agresor.
Play me at U.L. clock ON or Viewing ON. I challenge you!

Or are you scared?

As I may suggest, I would not waste time with Aggresor, as his name suggest,s the text typed between these masseage boards does not make sense..either yu play by his rules, the sites rules, or his rules, and no offense to Aggresors English, it;s a little hard to read what he is saying, but going by his last message, I.m sure he understands the basics.

Aggresor, UL has died much here, as a players option in the games room.

I,m sure if yu love UL, I would try and keep, as many players for entainment as possible.

Cheers Jerry.
