There are certain sayings and proverbs with generalities related to simple philosophies that I question. Some of these have similarities to aspects of stratego. Below is a list, created by gravon's most beloved player (me, you unappreciative s.o.b.'s)
1. "DON'T ASSUME" - This is complete horseshit from the word go. 9 times out of 10, assuming is merely a head start toward the truth. The one incident where you end up being wrong is worth all the others that you saved time on.
in stratego - lets say that your opponent brings up a 3 in the middle and then stops him dead with a piece behind it and another on the side. Can we assume it is a 1, 3, spy trap? - Do minorities loot in a blackout?? In the very least his marshall or his spy is there, unless of course he is "Lost a Lot" Lancelot.
2. "YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE HIM DRINK IT" - This one is often true but never when you prepare the horse beforehand. Parch that filthy steed prior to escorting him to water and he will plunge in with reckless abandon (eyes fully closed and mouth agape).
in stratego - When bluffing, make your opponent need a piece, thirst for it, crave it before you make your offer. The dipshit will fall for it every time, especially if you make it look as though he created the opportunity himself.
3. "QUANTITY OVER QUALITY" - This reminds me of man's desire for females. Not everybody has been gifted as I have and can have both quantity and quality. Most of you misfits will have to choose one or the other and some will have no choice but to learn how to self satisfy on a long term basis. For those who have to pick one, choose quantity and let me explain why. We men are insatiable beasts of conquest and no matter how fine our female is, she becomes boring after a while. At this point your interest is low anyway. A new female is automatically given a 2 point rating increase (on a scale from 1 - 10) just because you have not explored her yet. I am not suggesting that any self respecting man expends much energy groveling for undesireables. I am suggesting that it is more fun to frolic with 10 decent playthings than to grope on only one magnificent female.
in stratego - I used to be one of the fools who thought a 1 piece power advantage will likely win me the game. However, any good player knows that as long as you are not 3 power pieces behind, it is much better to have the quantity of pieces than 1 lonely scrapper who has to win it all by himself.
4. "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL" - LMAO!! I only have one thing to say to disprove this hysterically inaccurate adage. BRASNIKOS!!! I now rest my case.
in stratego - some of you wack jobs think that a general is equal to a marshall or even worse, a colonel to a general. While information is important, a good player knows how to extend a small advantage into a bigger one.
5. "BETTER A BIG FISH IN A SMALL POND THAN A SMALL FISH IN A BIG POND" - More nonsense!! One can never become a big fish if he or she always hides from the world of risk and achievement. Stroking one's ego via this method can not only be delusional, but also an unhealthy long term strategy. Eventually somebody is going to pop your bubble and there isn't any fun in that experience.
in stratego - there are not many stratego sites and we all know where the best players are. Beating down scrubs does not prove anything nor does protecting one's high ranking by avoiding dangerous players. It is better to have a somewhat lower ranking and be a more developed, versatile player than it is to be a highly ranked "pretty boy". You will be more noted for giving good players tough games and winning some than you would be if you were ranked #1 but avoided competition.
5. "WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY" - This is yet another idealistic sh!t-pile of delusionism. There isn't any other form of misguidance that has lead more rejects to utter embarrassment and failure than this doozy. One can only achieve what one has the aptitude for. We all have limits. Learn yours and don't stray too far beyond them.
in stratego - There have been numerous examples of this syndrome right here at gravon. Frightfully, I have seen some players go 50 games without a win yet continue onward, attempting to force their feeble genetics into victory. The most recent example of this is no other than "Lost a Lot" Lancelot. It is good to have a strong will but it is also a virtue not to crack one's head open against a cement wall. After all, generations of family humiliation is worth avoiding, is it not? |
