Hello Stratego-Players,
StraDoS2, v2.2beta is now available. Unlike the previous version, the new StraDoS2 version is not downloaded directly but via Java Webstart.
Java Webstart is a platform and operating system independend way to easily use downloadable applications. It resolves most of the problems with StraDoS2 under Windows XP and it enables StraDoS2 to be used under Windows, Linux, Solaris and MacOS X.
Webstart also takes care of latest updates to StraDoS2. This way, you'll always use the latest available version without any needs to reinstall or update manually.
In order to get the new StraDoS2 v2.2beta, follow these steps:
1. If not already installed on your system, download and install Suns Java Runtime Environement (JRE) v1.5 or later. JRE 1.5 can be found here:
http://java.com/en/index.jsp
Just click on "Download Now" in the upper left corner.
2. Click on this link:
StraDoS2
A window will appear with a certificate issued from "Thorsten Jungblut". You'll have to click yes or always to proceed.
If you experience any problems, please leave a note under this topic.
Some words about the new StraDoS version:
Beginning with StraDoS2, games can be downloaded as monthly packages zip-files. Such zip files contain all games played in one month with download option active. The zip file contains all games in the new xml format.
StraDoS2 is now able to open the hole zip file, so there is no need to unzip it.
In order to navigate through the games in the zip file, use the keys "N" and "P" on your keyboard for the next / previous game.
There is no graphical feedback of the navigation yet, except that you will see a new game on the board and the name of the game file in the window's title. That will change soon.
StraDoS2 is still able to open the old gsn files of course. It is also able to open zip files containing gsn files exactly like the new zip files including navigation.
The new menu option "Webservice..." is not working yet, be prepared for more action coming soon
Best regards

Hello again,
monthly files have been updated, monthly packages from april to july 2005 are available. Unfortunatly, only few players decided to offer their games for download..
Best regards

Spion,
Can I install StraDos on a PC without acces to internet?
And maybe it is wise, to make "downloadable games" as default, when a game starts.
Just like in the old days

With a text editor I believe you could edit games in xml format into gsn versions. Good luck with that though that would take 5 minutes per game to edit. But perhaps some weekend you could write a Microsoft Word macro to remove all of the xml tags etc.
Hmm sounds like a rainy day idea |

It looks like the strados file download page is no longer. Is it safe to say that Strados is no longer? |

hi,
there ia a broken link and spion has to update the files.
StraDos now works via a java webstart - not with the old download file.
but java 7 is full of bugfixes and i told spion 14 days ago, that strados does
not work and that the link is down. its on his (long) to-do-list.
think its online again in jan.
greets

Hi,
how can we replay games now. StraDos doesn't start and the downloadable games are very old.
I would like to Show some Kids, that you can win, even if you should not have a chance...
Greetings, Andreas |
