Does anyone think the Top Ten players (Overall Ratings) are just lucky. No way. This game does come down to intelligence and familiarity with the position you are in. There is a luck aspect of the game--but the great players are better than us at diminishing that aspect. Lion is #1 because he outthinks his opponents. I am sure he does not rely on luck!
The luck aspect comes in mostly in the initial setup. Maybe you have you marshal on the same side as your opponent's general—this gives you an edge. But the fundamentals come into play by how you move the pieces, how you bluff, and how you conceal the identity of certain pieces (marshal, general, spy, and bombs) until you either gained enough information or until you can gain an advantage by acknowledging that piece.
Players will get better by playing games. You luck will not increase by the number of games you played. I have found out some “secrets” of the game from opponents and I have passed them on to others. From what I have seen, Sadistic, Wussy, Gpet0, Playa1, Leto, and others do this too. It is very nice to help out the others, especially the ones that are starting out or think this game comes down to luck. |

Hmmm, partly agree on this one ESQ.
There will be a bit of luck involved in the start of the game but the win/loose kinda luck will mostly be in the end game.
If red got a general and blue's highest piece is a colonel, and red can or must gamble, in order to win the game, he can gamble for the flag.
Red can choose one of the 2 or 3 or 4 'unmoved' pieces (all are bombs except one --> the flag) for death or glory, I think this is the moment where the real luck steps into play.
When I loose on my first moves of the game a colonel to my opponents Marshall he is BLOODY LUCKY, but I still haven't lost that game.
"When the flag drops the bullsh*t stops" Bernie E would say.
