I just learned that Unbiasbob passed away the day after X-mas 2013 in a Thai hospital. I really enjoyed my Gravon chat discussions (and games) with Bob about movies, sports, stratego, 70's TV shows, music and politics over the past 9 years. When Bob passed it was no different to me than if a neighborhood buddy or childhood friend was gone. I am sorry to bring this terrible news to the community.

His obituary page is unbiasbob.com. I guess someone in his family knew his Stratego alias.

Bob, although I am an atheist, I hope I am wrong and that you are playing stratego right now somewhere.

My condolences. tp

Very saddened to hear this news.

I spoke at length with bob on many occasion. He was a nice guy and I will miss him.
Gravon is a community and in every community we have people we would class as friends. Today I learned I lost a friend.

Spion is it possible to name one of the Stratego rooms after bob?
I think he would like that.

Regards,
Ace

Art e-mailed me an requested that I post the following condolence for Bob:

To Gravon Community:
I also was shocked to hear the news of Bob. I am very sad indeed. Bob was a dear friend also to me. While I knew him online only, we had tried to make arrangements to meet up when he visited the United States last summer. Someone like Bob is a once in a lifetime find, and I believe we all would say that he had a heart of gold. Bob looked out for everyone in the gravon community. His patience and insight were traits that I would aspire to have. I will miss him.
The cherry picking spotting scientist.

"Tangles?" he would say to invite a game of Stratego .Yes lets build a stratego room for Bob.

Damn, what a sad way to start my Saturday. Bob used to ask me to crush other players sometimes, on his behalf and he loved the game. It was fun having somebody here, who cared so much about stratego in a fun way.

This is a huge loss to Gravon. Damn it.

It may seem inappropriate for me to comment given the spats I had with Bob last year on here, but of course I would never have wanted to hear this news and I too am saddened by it. I was wondering where he had got to.

In the past though, we had some very friendly conversations - I remember fondly a few years ago, playing a game against MuLan (remember him?) and he was winning and being the big mouth he was, he was letting me know about it - Bob was in the room watching and took exception to this but MuLan continued to send taunting messages to me (this was in the days before you could send the chat records to Admin). I kept playing and with my last throw of the dice, managed to get a captain past his defences. I had just one chance, pure lotto - and I ploughed right into his flag. MuLan went crazy and Bob loved every moment of it. We had a good laugh about that after MuLan left the room!

So although we fell out last year and argued about who the bigger cherry picker/humper was, it's not like I wished any ill on the guy.

RIP

I will always remember our last conversation in the forum and privat on Gravon.

He was a little crazy, funny but above all a teaser. (all in a good way)
In the end we made a deal for a game.

Unbiasbob we will play and i will win

See you and R.I.P. "cheesehead"

This is shocking news. Bob never mentioned that there was anything wrong with him and I thought we would have many more chats.

He was a gentleman and a truly decent man. I still cannot believe I logged on and read this. I will miss his banter and wit.

At least he enjoyed playing the game he loved and talking to like minded people in his final year. He was a fantastic ambassador for America, had humility and this will be a real loss to Stratego and Gravon.

There will never be another 'Bob'

this is very sad to read. unbiasbob played for more than 8 years here and was a very sportive player.
i really hope he had his moments within his live with and beside stratego.

we all know that he liked stats, so here the last facts about bob:

during the 8 years he played 6673 games.

Stratego: 6506
Stratego Weird: 5
Malefiz: 153
Malefiz Extreme: 4
Mädn: 6
4gewinnt: 3
Schach: 2

Stratego-Games:

1766 he won with red
1153 he lost with red
86 he drawed with red

1988 he won with blue
1394 he lost with blue
124 he drawed with blue

we will miss him

from now on room 204 is called: unbiasbob`s field of honor

stratego

Nice Gesture, Stratego.

I have another suggestion.

While Bob and I were squireling a lot on the forum (you also get a bond that way), it was mostly about statistics (ranking, cherry picking etcetera). We both had a passion for statistics and the ranking list.

So maybe it is possible to keep Unbiasbob on the all-time Kleier list, (maybe in another colour). He should not disappear there, at least thats how I feel about it and I think he would appreciate it.

Stratego, thank you for posting the interesting statistics and for commemorating a room to Bob. It was a great idea by Ace.
