OK - this is a little silly, and I don't expect anyone to do anything about it, but it seems fun.

Here are the rules for "Blind Stratego" which could not be played with a regular board -- only with a computer program. The idea is based on the fact that in the board game, the pieces are facing towards you, so they should not be able to see backwards, that is, towards the opposing player.

Some definitions first:

To "see" another piece is to know it is there, but not necessarily to know its rank ("Marshall," etc.).

To "know" another piece is to know it is there and to also know what rank it is.

1) All pieces are set up as in Classic Stratego, except that pieces may be placed in any position in the first FIVE rows on your side of the board (but not in the lake). So there will be six empty squares on each side.

2) All pieces move and attack as in Classic Stratego.

3) You can only see an opposing pieces if you have a piece that is that far across the board. For example, you can only see pieces on the opponent's back row if you have a piece all the way to the further row you can advance your pieces. Also see rules #4 and #5.

4) While you can see pieces to your left and right, and back towards you (both straight, and at both 45 degrees angles, but at no other angle), your view is obstructed by any intervening piece. You cannot see over another piece.

5) Scouts can also see forward in a straight line only towards the opposing side. Rule #4 still applies to Scouts in other respects. That is, this is an additional capability for Scouts.

6) You know opponent pieces in the same manner as for Classic Stratego.

Hope you enjoyed reading this idea. Thanks to the nice folks that have made this wonderful site.
