I am getting a bit fed up with this view of the uninitiated, that barrage is all about luck. 3 or 4 people have said this to me now and the funny thing is they say it after I just beat them 2 or 3 times at it. I always tell them, if its all about luck how come Ace is 1st in the rankings just as he is at classic. I think thats why some of them don't play much though, as they think its just a game of chance. It's a real shame as it is an excellent game for when you have less time, or can't be bothered for a long slog with classic.
I'm up to 11th on the WSC board at barrage, having been something like 140th a few weeks ago, so you can also make great progress in the rankings because there are few really good players out there who will hold you down. Im 5th on the klier board though there's only 15 players listed at present. Its still an achievement for me though.
I recommend more people begin to give it a go! |

No bounty, I've not been to any tournaments as yet. 2005 was when I first came across gravon and began playing, but its only in the last few weeks I've been playing more barrage against other players and in ranked games. Obviously there is an element of luck sometimes in barrage but you have to play well to even get a chance. In a game with Rapunzel this week he had the standard 3 piece corner setup and I had a chance with my scout. I was going toget flag, bomb or spy and I picked spy, but in the very corner was the bomb so I lost. Now instead of picking the spy I could just have easily picked the flag which was in front of the bomb. So in that case it was luck, but against Rapunzel you don't even get that chance if you can't play properly!
In fact Bounty I've just edged ahead of you on the WSC list now, up to 5th on that one as well. You had better get back on the board and try to catch me! |

lol, just had another one saying this as his reason for not wanting to play barrage. JohnSilver...not even ranked but couldn't tempt him! But his theory is that all stratego is at least 50% luck and barrage even more so.
Ruben we had some good games today, yes in a couple of them there was some luck both ways, but generally you know if someone is a 'good' player or not. I think you would beat most players Ruben so hope to see you luring people in as I've been doing, and getting barrage more widely played here! |

well 50% is far too much. Even for Barrage But when both players are equally matched the luck % is maybe even higher than 50% with barrage...
We had some nice games there Samuel Funny, my last game was in 2007 |

I think I know what happened. I played Johnsilver at classic and he is a complete rookie, which I hadn't realised at the time. He even asked to play open and would I mind showing him a good setup he could borrow off me lol. Bless!
But I got another one yesterday, danoob. Again quite a new player to Stratego but I did get him to play barrage and he even won a couple of times, so hopefully I made him see sense that there is more to it than just luck. |
