Reminder: You have until February 5th. to register for the tourney. Also, I still need e-mail addresses for some players already signed up. Please send me these ASAP.

FOSP Classic Stratego Tournament Rules

1. Each week you will have 2 games to be played. Use e-mail to communicate with you opponents for that week. Please understand that players are from many different time zones and try to complete every game. Any games that are not completed for that week will have a default time of 12:00 PM EST(Eastern Standard Time) If only 1 player is on Gravon at that time, they will be awarded the win. If neither player is on Gravon at that time, the game will be declared a draw.
2. The opponents for the week will be posted in the “tournament” section of the forum on Saturdays at 6:00 PM EST begging on 2/10/07.
3. There will be 4 weeks of games for a total of 8 games. The top four players will then move onto the playoffs. The playoffs will be as follows: You will have a week to play your opponent for that week. (Same format as the first 4 weeks of play) But you will play a best of 3 games series against that opponent. The 2 winners will then move onto the finals. In the finals, you will also have a week to complete a best of 3 series against your opponent.
4. I will check the battle results daily throughout the tournament. Please do not mail game results to me. I will list the standings in the forum on a weekly basis.
5. You will receive 3 point for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
6. Any problems should be e-mailed to me. My e-mail address is harold.whiting@juno.com
7. You will be e-mailed a list with everyone in the tournament and their e-mail address on 2/6/07. Please communicate early with your weekly opponents. Tournament are only succesful when all games are completed every week.
I wish everyone luck,

Hi Hal

Please accept my apoligies as I pull out of this tournament.

I have only just read the rules of the tournament, as I have not been around very much this last week or 2.

One particular item concerning having to play these games as ranked games......seems a little strange....most tournaments allow a choice of ranked or unranked.......or even stipulate games should be unanked.

Hopefully you can fill my place with eindhoven or someone else. Sorry for the inconvenience my friend.

100% my fault for not watching the board a little more closer and being pretty busy.

Ace

Since no one volunteered I will complete my games. I am not going to be cry over ranking points as AceRimmer is. I am truly busy, as in real life.
I could care less about ranking points. I will find the time to get my games in. I was upfront about cancelling with 3 days notice, but since no on stepped forward I'll take responsiblity and do my part.

Am I playing Marshall Hal and hemihead? Am I "BYE" ?

Art: yes, you are the "bye" and play both hemihead and myself this week. Thank you for rejoining the tournament because I couldn't fill your spot.

AceRimmer: I will remove you from the tournament and all your opponents throughout the tourney will receive a bye. I would like to add that I am completely shocked by this. Because your ranking points may be in jeopardy you do not want to play???? I find this to be childish...this IS only a game, and this IS a tournament. Are you palehorseman????? LOL

my opinion is that when you always play ranked games, why shouldn't you play ranked now ?

You are a good sport, Art. I am glad to see you playing. Good luck my friend.

Sorry to see you pull out, Ace. I wish you would have give Hal more notice. We got lucky that edfx will join in your place. Thanks, Ed.

Do I get points for recruiting edfx late last nite?

No harm meant Ace, but I do recall you arguing with Sadistic over how rating points mean little to you, and that you're not a ratings chaser.

Since you play real life tournaments sitting across from real people at a table playing Stratego in your other club, I thought Gravon just to be another venue for you.

Even Michael Jordan used to get stuffed by the Pistons. He did not score 37 points every game of his career.

Noone is crying over anything.........I was merely apoligising for pulling out of the tournament.

Because your ranking points may be in jeopardy you do not want to play???? I find this to be childish...this IS only a game, and this IS a tournament.

It is not about ranking points, it's about not having much time to play or practice.....and also about this being a low priority for me. Why should I have to play ranked? I do not care whether I win any games in this competition........it is merely about playing for fun. I only volunteered to play, to help with the numbers. Making the games all ranked games......means I actualy have to try to win.
Last year I played 13 tournaments. Some real life tournaments and some online. I am tired of playing tournaments......and have a tournament coming up in 5 weeks. Between now and then.......I have 3 Stratego websites to finnish, personal and family commitments, 2 real life Stratego projects to finish off, a BSA meeting to attend (about organising a uk real life tournament.), aswell as actually going to work and trying to play some stratego from time to time.

Too many commitments maybe?
Chairman of the I.U.L.A. including organising 6 tournaments per year.
Secretary of the B.S.A. including organising 3 tournaments per year.
Chairman of the 3 lions club, including organising all the clubs affairs.

I will join any stratego tournament that is going........if it helps the tournament be a success. But having the willpower and energy to try to win all tournaments.......is not easy. Making the tournament ranked......means I can't enter and play alternate tactics. With this being the case.........I have apoligised and pulled out of the tournament. I just do not have the energy and time to play serious stratego at the moment.

How you see this as being childish......is beyond me. If I had the energy and time to play a serious tournament....... then I would. If this is a problem for you......then I apoligise once more.

To ppfffff (eindy): What the fuk has sportsmanship got to do with......apoligising for pulling out of a tournament. Seriously......do you have a brain?

To ricardo: Playing a ranked game is down to an individual. Sometimes I play ranked and sometimes I play unranked........It depends on 2 things.
Firstly: whether I feel I need practice or not
&
Secondly: whether I am in the mood to play a serious game.......or whether i just want a quick fun game.

I like the choice to play ranked or unranked, depending on how I feel.
Choice is good.

To ogetarts: oggy I have been busy......thus not many games or posts these last couple of weeks. I apoligised for this......I can do no more. I spend enough friggin time doing stratego related stuff......I can't be everywhere and do everything at once.

To art: Among the many new year's resolutions i made at the start of the year (half of which have been broken already.lol) was a resolution to not to play stratego when pissed, tired or playing badly. I have broken this resolution only once so far this year. This does not mean I am a ratings chaser......it just means I am being a little more sensible. The amount of times I have played ranked stratego games when either very tired or a little pissed.......must number at least 10%.
Playing ranked games more seriously than unranked game is my choice. I enjoy the challenge of ranked games and I also enjoy the fun aspect of the unranked game.
This year I am taking a more professional approach to the game.
If I did this last year......I would almost certainly be the Barrage World Champion.
A unprofessional approach cost me dearly last year. We live and learn.
My unprofessional approach to the Barrage World Championships......included staying up all night......(the day before the tournament) and traveling down to the tournament in the early hours.
This meant on the day of the tournament I had been awake for more than 26 hours. The effects were dramatic.......in the first 2 games......I knocked over my pieces in BOTH games.......I was shattered and foreited both games because the opponent had seen my pieces. I gave myself a little slap after those 2 games........but the damage was done......I finnished level on points with the winner.........but the tie breaker to decide the first place from the second place.......was those 2 games. If I had won or drawn one of those 2 games .......I would be barrage WC.

This is why you may find me being a little more professional this year.......no 4am games. No games after coming in from a night on the town and no unprofessional preparation.....for major tournaments.

Hi all,

This has gone far enough. I just deleted 6 or 7 posts. Ace gave his reasons for why he pulled out of the tournament. They are all valid reasons and it was his decision. Fortunately, we have a replacement player to take Ace's place in the draw. Let's move forward and start playing the games. Thank you.
