I got a question:
Does anybody knows (and then als want to tell me) which pieces we are going to use on the Dutch Championships 2006???
I need to know...
There are rumours going on that in 2007 the games must be played with new design is that true?
Gimme some information, that's all I need, but nobody can (or is willing) to give.

Ricardo90, Lightwing, Ruben and all others....
I can get used to the new design but it will take me a lot of hours / games.
And I simply dont got much time spare.
The announcement that DC will use new pieces is way to late!
Why wasn't it announced in July or August?
No, on the second half of September finally I hear the info on the forum (Thx to ruben)
How can I get used to the pieces in this short periode?
Playing old and new mixed here on Gravon is for me also no option.
Maybe someone don't like to see me participating?!
And kept old pieces / new pieces as a secret.
Sure Im at the DC in October, its only 25 km of my house, like to see my collegue Stratego fans.
I will love Stratego till I'm 95, but when the new pieces are the ones we must use I will not participate the DC.
Good luck to you all, but the endresults WILL show "famous" names on the bottom part, and lesser Gods on the high spots.
Old great players like Wim Snelleman, Andre Pols, Peter van Bodegom, Sander Rinzema, Martin Dekker and a bunch others are lost for the future of real-life Stratego in Europe.
To sad, but understandable in Jumbo's point of view: " $ "

Hi Wussy,
It's a pity you dont participate but I can understand. I agree on almost everything you written.
I think almost everybody is not happy with the new pieces. And they are indeed late with the final conlusion to play with the new ones.
However I think it is not very hard to get used to the new pieces (from own experience). I thought if was before I got used. A few games at gravon and a few on the Real board should do it. But indeed you should have time for it.
The tournament in Venray a week before the NC will be played with the new pieces also to get used to them.
Its very sad if the old good players wont come back.
Greetings ruben |

yes it would be very sad when the good players doesn't come, but what can you do about it :S. anyway its not very difficult to learn the new game, also i always hope the good players will participate so i and lighty have some competition at the moment. i think the last tournaments where a little piece of cake for me and lightwing ? only erik van de berg was there as real good player and ofcourse dennis baas and tim slagboom, but it wasn't enough. i hope to see old and good players but also new players, juniors etc because they will be the future when the old players stop. _________________ OWNAGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hi stratego-fans,
I will give a reaction to a few posts I just read...
You are totally right about the time that the announcement is made, it should have been much earlyer. And I also rejected the new pieces when I first saw them, just is everybody has. The past days I start playing with them (1,5 week before the DC) and I am getting used to them. With a little bit of time and effort (and memory but thats no problem) it will take you 20 games tops. Even my oppinion was (and still is) that the influence of Jumbo is far to big, I think EVERBODY should give the new game a chance! How can someone judge, when he does not know what he is talking about?
The old players named in a post are not quiting stratego because of the new pieces. These names stopped playing stratego a long time ago, to bad cause I never got the chance to measure my skills with them.
And 'famous' names?? The famous names of a few years ago are not famous anymore. If someone think he has a famous name I dare him to come to a tourney next year, and challenge the 'new generation' with the old pieces. (almost all tourneys in 2007 will be played with the old pieces)
And Ricardo, don't you worry about the competition at the DC, I have got my form back and I am ready for my second title!
Good luck to all the stratego-fans over the world with learning to play with the new game, and to all the Dutch, I will see you on the 28th of oktober in Eindhoven.
Regards,
Tim Slagboom |
