Which player would you rather be and why?
RED player (flag is open)
Remaining pieces.....
2 Majors
3 Captians
1 Lieutenant
1 Sergeant
3 Miners
5 bombs
BLUE player (flag is surrounded by bombs)
Remaining pieces....
1 General
4 Lieutenants
3 Sergeants
2 Scouts
1 Miner
4 bombs
----------
For the RED -- 1 Major, 3 Captians, 2 Miners and 2 bombs are known.
For the BLUE -- 4 Lieutenants, 2 Sergeants and 3 bombs are known.
The game is classic stratego and red has the next move...... |

hi oge,
it depends of the setup. most of the times red will win, because the
gen cannot beat any pieces. there is no 2nd piece to get one of the
majors or caps. red is happy with a draw - the gen must go for a
lucky punch to get the open flag.
at board with chess clocks it could be a draw. depends of the pregame.
the game would be better, if more is unknown and the gen gets a col beside. then the 2 highest pieces could beat a major. but this will cause
an unguarded flag - in the end you can test 2 (maybe) flags.

Oge, are you drinking again? You configured a blowout! It doesn't take a genius to figure out which side has a big advantage. |

I think the blue could win this game.
Why?
The red has an open flag. The blue has a general which is unknown and can't be beat unless it attacks a bomb. The blue also has 2 scouts, which are extremely valuable when someone has an open flag. The red player has no scouts left. The red would need a miner to win the game. He has to remove one of the bombs that are surrounding the flag. The red only has 3 miners which 2 of them are known. If the blue can eliminate those 2 miners that only leaves the red player with 1 chance.
So, I guess I'm the only person that would take the blue.......
Ultimately though, it depends on who my opponent is and the setup of the remaining pieces. The setup would really decide who has the clear advantage.

Red will win easily in most games. However, he should not forget to fake his flag in case Blue is going for the lotto
Set up for Red is important indeed, Set Up for Blue is very easy to see and to know where his general is I think. |

Not necessarily. Some are very good at hiding pieces, bluffing and waiting for the right moment. You have to remember, the general that blue has is 1 of 6 pieces that are unknown.

hi oge,
the unknown gen is not important - take a major and beat all till
you find him. enough pieces at the board.
it needs a col beside the gen, then the game is intresting.

I would like to play someone just for fun with this setup. I think I could win a good amount of the games. I have 2 scouts and a general to find an open flag. The red only has 7 pieces which are unknown... 8 if you count the flag. From those unknown pieces, we don't know how many have actually moved. Let's say 2 or 3 of those have moved, which is very likely. That means I have 3 pieces (general and 2 scouts) to attack 5 or 6 unmoved pieces with the goal of hitting the flag.

If I was your opponent I would attack your setup with my pieces which have moved. Defending is not an option for you, so maybe I find your flag first.
